The University of Ghana on New Year’s Day 2026 published a 25% increase in academic user fee for the 2025/2026 academic year

Ghana’s Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has published the officially approved fees for the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year in an effort to clarify the institution’s fee structure and address public concerns.

In a statement issued on Monday, 12 January, and signed by its Director-General, Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission said the Academic Facility User Fee will remain unchanged from the 2024/2025 academic year.

According to GTEC, the decision not to increase this component of the fees is intended to reduce financial pressure on students and ensure consistency in the administration of charges.

The approved fee schedule includes SRC dues of GH¢50, an SRC Development Levy of GH¢150, and a Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Development Levy of GH¢250.

Undergraduate students, including first-year students, will also be required to pay a Telecel Broadband Levy of GH¢122.

In addition, GTEC approved a one-off 75th Anniversary Levy of GH¢100, which will apply only during the 2025/2026 academic year and will not be repeated in subsequent years.

The Commission said students must be properly informed of their rights, including the option to opt out of certain levies where such provisions apply.

“This announcement seeks to resolve issues surrounding the 2025/2026 fee schedule for the University of Ghana,” the statement said, adding that GTEC expects the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation, in line with broader efforts to promote transparency and compliance in the tertiary education sector.
