SRC & GRASAG responsible for academic user fee hike-UG clarifies

The administration of the University of Ghana has explained that the 25% increase in tuition for the 2025/2026 academic year is mostly due to third-party fees, rather than a choice made by the institution authorities.

According to the institution, the price adjustments across all colleges include fees imposed by the Students Representative Council, SRC, and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana, GRASAG, rather than increases made by the university itself.

UG management explained that these costs, which are approved and controlled by student leadership, are included in students’ total tuition and have made a substantial contribution to the overall increase that has garnered public attention.

The institution emphasized that its part of academic costs has not risen by the amount widely reported and urged students and the public to differentiate between university-approved fees and those imposed by student organizations.

Management intimates thatit is still dedicated to openness in pricing decisions and urged continuing collaboration with students to resolve issues about affordability and access to education.
